"Hip Hop Is Dead"

Remember when songs actually made sense? They used to always have meaning and some type of passion behind them... Well now, things are different. Artists only rap about money, drugs, and sex. Always talking about what they have, not even trying to make a difference in anyone's life. People make songs just to make money. Nothing has to make sense these days, as long as the artist is getting paid. Call me old school, but I like music that comes with a meaning, something I can relate to. I’m not saying that the rap songs out right now aren’t good, my thing is that most people turn to music when their life gets complicated, but how does rapping about cars help somebody? Other songs have a negative affect on people. It may not have been the artists’ intention, but people take their lyrics and go out to do the things that they have in their songs. Some examples are songs like “Bust Your Windows,” by Jazmin Sullivan, and “Every Girl” by Lil Wayne. These songs are very catchy, but when I listen to what they're actually saying, I don't see a true purpose for the songs. In "Bust Your Windows," she says that she bust the windows out of his car, because he cheated on her. There are other ways to deal with someone cheating on you, aside from doing something that would make them press charges on you. In "Every Girl," they are talking about sleeping with every girl in the world, but at the end, they only say specific people. It's a contradiction, and it shows that they weren't thinking when they made the song. They say that they want to sleep with every girl, in the world, but what about the women who have diseases, and the female children? By saying "every girl," it includes babies, teenagers, grown women, and even elderly women, and they know that they don't want to die from STD's, or get arrested for rape.... People don't think about the image they're making for themselves, as long as they get paid in the ending.
